Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the brave freedom fighters who brought victory by risking their lives with their blood, suffering from paralysis, should be given the highest honor.

He said, ‘He may not be with my opinion, he may not be in my party, still he is a freedom fighter. I respect him. And that honor will be given by the people of this country for ages, that is what we want.’

He said this while addressing the awarding ceremony of the selected fellows of ‘Prime Minister Fellowship 2024’ at the Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister’s Office on Tuesday (July 16).

The Prime Minister said, ‘They jumped at the call of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation, with everything they had. It should be kept in mind that our victory was achieved through their sacrifice.

‘So they should always be given the highest respect. I know that many of our team do not support this. Gone to another place. Many can have many things. It doesn’t matter to me where they go, what matters to me is that they sacrificed everything with their lives, with their blood, many of them accepted paralysis and brought victory to this country. So their honor will be the highest.’

Sheikh Hasina said, ‘The freedom fighters were neglected at one time, since I came I have given them all kinds of support and can proudly say that I am a freedom fighter.’

Expressing hope that those who are going abroad to become skilled, they will return and serve the country more efficiently. Fellows are being given so that they can contribute to the development of the country in the future. Come back and work for the people of the country.’

He said, ‘I have reduced the rate of poverty in the country, ensured food security, the country will also advance in education.’

Highlighting the various steps taken by his government for the development of education, the Prime Minister said, ‘I have aimed to ensure that no region lags behind. Due to the delivery of internet services even in remote areas, youths are getting an opportunity to earn income by financing in the village. The Awami League government has made the technology readily available.

In order to prevent the fellowship from being closed in the future, the head of government said that a trust should be made and passed into law.

He said, ‘The father of the nation wanted to create a society free from exploitation, hunger and poverty. The government is working keeping that in mind. No one will be left behind.’
