Freeport Football Academy Attracts 30 Papuan Children as New Students

jpnn.comTIMIKA – Papua Football Academy (PFA) on Monday (12/8) announced and called 30 selected children born in 2011 and 2012, who will become new students at the Mimika Sports Complex homebase, Class 3, to become part of PFA U-13.

A total of 30 selected students have passed the final selection stage as well as the 2024 Talent Search Final Camp training in Jayapura City, in July 2024.

They also took football technical ability tests, medical tests, general medical check-ups, potential and ability tests based on a database through fingerprints and psychological tests.

“They are the best Papuan sons who passed the 2024 PFA Talent Search selection and successfully competed with more than two thousand applicants from various regions in Papua,” said Papua Football Academy Director Wolfgang Pikal.

This year the PFA expanded its talent search area to reach as many candidates as possible.

The total number of registrants this year was 2,110 participants, which is a significant increase compared to previous activities.

In the 2022 PFA Talent Search (selection in Timika, Jayapura, Merauke) a total of 477 participants were recruited. Meanwhile, the 2023 PFA Talent Search (Timika, Jayapura, Merauke, Nabire, Waropen and Serui) was attended by 445 participants.

Wolfgang said that in this selection process, the PFA Technical and Management Teams are trying to get the best quality talent.

PFA is a youth football academy for talented Papuan sons which was initiated by PT Freeport Indonesia in 2022.
