In the run-up to the local council meeting, there had been non-public rounds of discussions with various people in which the association’s three proposals with renovation measures between 800,000 euros and up to eight million euros (the BZ reported) were heavily reduced to the decision-making process. Now the council no longer felt like further discussions.
15 yes votes for the measures
The measures were approved with a clear majority of 15 yes votes. “We as a city can go along with this, also in the interests of the other clubs. It’s not what the club imagined at its best. But we found a good compromise,” said Mayor Dirk Schaible, who left office in the summer.
However, the decisions made with financial reservations are, at least for the time being, sufficient for the SGV to remain in the city, as SGV President Emir Cerkez confirms. The negotiations about moving to Heilbronn and joining the VfR there, which were about to be completed – similar to how the handball players from SG BBM Bietigheim moved to HB Ludwigsburg for the new season – were stopped by Cerkez after delicate approaches and at least small concessions were made Freiberg had signed off.
