French Ambassador to be summoned to the British Foreign Office after the arrest of a British ship

French Ambassador to London Catherine Colonna will be summoned to the British Foreign Office after the detention of the British fishing vessel Cornelis Gertjan in French waters. This was announced by the head of the British Foreign Office, Elizabeth Truss.

“I instructed Deputy Foreign Secretary Wendy Morton to summon the French ambassador to the UK to explain the disappointing and disproportionate threats against the United Kingdom and the Channel Islands,” Elizabeth Truss wrote in Twitter.

Earlier, during an inspection of fishing vessels off the coast of France for fishing without a license, the French authorities detained one British trawler, and the second was fined. French authorities have also said they will close nearly all of their ports to British fishing vessels.

The conflict between London and Paris over fishing has been going on since spring. It began after the change in agreements in this area against the background of the UK’s exit from the EU.
