French double in Great Britain, Hadjar wins ahead of Martins

by time news

Frenchman Isack Hadjar (Hitech GP) won the first of two Formula 3 races scheduled for this weekend on the Silverstone track in Great Britain on Saturday.

The Hitech GP rider had already won the very first race of the season in March, in Bahrain.

Fourth on the starting grid, Hadjar, 17, overtook his compatriot Victor Martins (ART Grand Prix) on the penultimate lap, who finished second. Briton Reece Ushijima (Van Amersfoort Racing) completes the podium.

A member of Red Bull’s young driver pipeline, Hadjar now sits third in the driver standings, 13 points behind Martins, still leading with 71 points.

At the start of the main race on Sunday, Hadjar will start 9th and Martins 11th.

Since the start of the season, each round of Formula 3 has included a free practice session and a qualifying session on Friday, then a race on Saturday and another on Sunday.

Qualifying results determine the starting grid for Sunday’s main race, which earns the most points in the driver standings.

Saturday’s starting grid is determined by reversing the Top 12 qualifications.
