Fajar Alfian & Muhammad Shohibul Fikri Advance to 2025 French Open Final

Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri are one step closer to badminton glory, securing their place in the 2025 French Open final after a decisive victory over second-seeded Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. This achievement marks a significant moment for the Indonesian duo as they pursue their second title of the year.

Overcoming the Second Seeds

The Indonesian pair, seeded eighth, demonstrated their prowess on Sunday, October 26th, defeating Chia and Soh in straight games with scores of 21-14 and 21-19 at the Glaz Arena. This win builds upon their previous success against the Malaysian duo, having also triumphed over them in the China Open final in July.

A Challenging Final Awaits

Fajar/Fikri will now face Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung-jae in the championship match. However, the head-to-head record favors the Korean pair, with Kim/Seo leading 2-1. Despite this, Fajar/Fikri are determined to claim their second title of 2025, having previously secured victory at the China Open.

Recent Performances and Indonesian History

The road to the final hasn’t been without its challenges. The pair experienced setbacks in the finals of both the Korea Open and Denmark Open. Looking back at Indonesian success in this tournament, Jonatan Christie was the last Indonesian athlete to win the French Open, achieving victory in the men’s singles event in 2023. Indonesian men’s doubles haven’t tasted victory at the French Open since Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo won in 2019 – a six-year drought the current duo hopes to end.
