French record for Gressier over 5,000 meters, European record for Katir

Gressier (26), European multi-medalist in the youth and cross-country categories, thus beats an old French record, held by Ismaïl Sghyr since the year 2000.

Jimmy Gressier broke the French record for the 5,000m on Friday in Monaco by running in 12 min 56 sec 09, in a race where the Spaniard Mohamed Katir seized the European record (12:45.01). Ethiopian Hagos Gebrhiwet won in 12 min 42 sec 18, while the race had been launched on the basis of the world record (12:35.36 by Ugandan Cheptegei in 2020).

Gressier (26), European multi-medalist in the youth and cross-country categories, thus beat an old French record, held by Ismaïl Sghyr since the year 2000 (12:58.83). With his time, Gressier also becomes selectable for the Budapest World Championships (August 19-27) and for the Paris Olympics in 2024.
