“Fridays for Future” – Climate youth shocked with radical slogans – Domestic politics

by time news

Children and young people demonstrating against climate change with brightly painted cardboard signs. It all started with “Fridays for Future”.

But in the meantime the activists have struck a different note, the climate youth shocked with radical slogans!

▶ ︎ Climate activist Carla Reemtsma (23) called in the “taz” interview “a radicalization of the forms of action” if she wanted to talk more about urgency again. Climate has “arrived so much in the mainstream that everyone can say he or she is for climate protection, but at the same time can reject every single climate protection measure.”

MEANS: “Mainstream climate protection” is not enough for the activist, she calls for more radical measures.

Concrete example of the activist: BLOCKADEN. It takes “diverse forms of action, from the petition that my grandma can sign, to people who block excavators with their bodies”. So also last Friday in front of the party headquarters of the SPD and the Greens.

▶ ︎ At a demo in front of the SPD federal headquarters, the Klima-Kids asked: “Who betrayed us …?” – a communist slogan that ends with the answer “Social Democrats”.

The phrase goes back to the November Revolution of 1918. The left had accused the SPD of having prevented a “real” socialist turnaround. A few years later, the Nazis also used the slogan and added the anti-SPD slogan with “Who makes you free? The Hitler Party! ”.

Now “Fridays for Future” uses the communism phrase because they don’t like the party’s climate policy.

SPD members were outraged. “With this sentence one makes common with Nazis and Communists, is that actually clear to you, Fridays for Future? Ashamed of yourselves, honestly! You are leaving the democratic spectrum, ”wrote SPD member Ali Kaan Sevinc.

And when the Green Party headquarters was blocked, the Climate Youth showed that they are not just concerned with climate protection, but with criticism of the system: An official “Fridays for Future” banner read “Capitalism? Also painted green shit! “

▶︎ Weiterer Radikal-Slogan der „Fridays for Future“-Aktivisten: „One struggle, one fight“.

This slogan was not only chanted at the demonstration in Berlin, but also shared on the youth movement’s Instagram channel. Historical example: Left-wing extremist demonstrations against the Americans’ Vietnam War and for the Palestinian terror resistance against Israel.

Back then, too, there were posters: “One struggle, one fight.”
