American actor Matthew Perry, 54, one of the stars of the highly successful television series “Friends”, was found dead in his home in Los Angeles, the American press reported this Saturday (28).
Law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times that Perry was found unconscious in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home.
The LA Times and the website TMZ, the first to report the news, reported that there were no signs of a criminal act at the scene, according to anonymous sources.
Perry became famous for playing Chandler Bing on the popular NBC series “Friends”, which aired for ten seasons between 1994 and 2004.
He struggled for years with addiction to painkillers and alcohol, and on several occasions attended rehabilitation clinics.
In his memoir, “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing”, published last year, Perry said he underwent detox treatments 65 times and spent around US$9 million (R$44 million, at current prices) on trying to stay sober.
He has also suffered health problems, such as a colon perforation in 2018, resulting from drug use. He had to undergo a seven-hour surgery and had to wear a colostomy bag months after the operation.
Perry dedicated his book to “all the sufferers out there” and wrote in the prologue: “I should be dead.”
The website TMZ also reported that no drugs were found at the scene. According to the website, Perry was found by his assistant, who called emergency services.
During the recent televised “Friends” reunion, Perry surprised her co-stars by admitting to suffering from severe anxiety “every night” during filming.
