Former Dortmund professional Torsten Frings believes that BVB has not yet overcome the trauma of the season finale and is therefore not performing at the moment. But the knot will burst, says Frings.

Dortmund.

For ex-Dortmunder Torsten Frings, the lost championship race last season is an important reason for BVB’s disappointing start to the new season.

“The head plays a big role. You can’t just shake off this incident that Dortmund had against Mainz on the last matchday. It takes time to figure it out,” the former national player told the pay-TV channel Sky.

After two disappointing draws against newly promoted 1. FC Heidenheim (2:2) and district neighbor VfL Bochum (1:1), Borussia Dortmund is under pressure to succeed in the away game on Saturday (3:30 p.m./Sky) at SC Freiburg. Frings does not believe in a long-term crisis because the runner-up has “a very good team”. “The knot will break at some point and they will play good football again,” predicted the 46-year-old, who played for Dortmund from 2002 to 2004.

Meanwhile, Frings cannot understand the criticism of coach Edin Terzic. “In May, Terzic was still standing in front of the south stand and a few minutes were missing from the German championship. To say after three games that the coach is wobbling is an exaggeration for me,” he said. But the BVB coach doesn’t have a free ticket either. “The results have to be right. If Dortmund play a few more times like they did last time, the topic of Terzic will come up by itself.” (dpa)
