The Gunay Children’s Theater Studio of the Baku Children’s and Youth Theater completed its 21st theater season with a performance on the stage of the Gusar State Lezgin Drama Theater with the play “Arshin Mal Alan” based on the work of the great composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the head of the group Larisa Tarusova told Day.Az. The performance was supported by the Union of Theater Workers of Azerbaijan.

Tarusova noted that the theater director Faig Gardashev received the team very warmly and cordially. “Under the leadership of the theater director Bagir Akhmedov, local young talents prepared a special program for us with songs and dances. It was a full house, and inspired by such a warm welcome, our young artists performed the performance with enthusiasm,” she said.

According to the head of the team, the Gunay Theatre has done fruitful work this theatre season, presenting performances based on works by world and Azerbaijani classics, contemporary authors at various venues. The new season will feature interesting premieres and projects.

“Arshin Mal Alan” (Arşın Mal Alan) is the last and most popular operetta by the Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli, written in 1913. The author of the operetta’s libretto is Uzeyir Hajibeyli himself. The premiere took place on October 25, 1913, at the Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev Theater in Baku. The action of the operetta takes place in Shusha, the city where the composer grew up. A new generation of young people dreams of creating a family based on mutual love. The work combines the traditions of European classical and Azerbaijani national music. “Arshin Mal Alan” has been translated into 80 languages ​​​​of the world and staged in more than two hundred theaters in over eighty countries of the world. In 2013, UNESCO celebrated the 100th anniversary of the operetta. The comedy has been filmed four times, with the most popular being the 1945 film starring Rashid Behbudov, which has been shown in more than 130 countries.
