From a nuisance to a resource: the Ministry of Environmental Protection supports the installation of small, local facilities

by time news

This support is intended to encourage the separation of organic waste at the source and quality and local treatment of organic waste to prevent landfilling, through the installation of composters or digesters in industrial areas, dining rooms, shopping areas and more. The facility is fed with organic waste, after breaking down the waste, compost or fertilizer is obtained that enriches the soil with organic matter and nutrients alongside other uses that can be utilized from the process. The support is intended for suppliers or bidders who market and install facilities for the treatment of organic waste separated at source. This step joins other measures of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, which are designed to reduce the hazards of organic waste, which include, among other things, the promotion of regulations for the treatment of organic waste and unprecedented support in the amount of 600 million shekels for the establishment, upgrading and operation of large treatment facilities for organic material from municipal waste.

Untreated organic waste produces a lot of environmental damage in landfills by emitting greenhouse gases, forming leachates, air and odor pollution hazards, and more. In mixed disposal (organic waste with other materials), organic waste is harmful to the ability to recycle the other materials around it. Separation at the source alongside treatment of organic waste through implementing the use of facilities for local and small treatment are complementary solutions that together produce an optimal treatment system for organic waste. The organic waste treatment facilities in this tender will be required to recycle the organic waste to create compost, gas or another product.
