Residents of the Aero Rancho neighborhood complain about the existence of open-air garbage on the banks of the Anhanduí River, on Avenida Thyrson de Almeida, in the capital. According to reports, occupants of the site discard piles of garbage in the river and lack of hygiene and high vegetation worries residents. In the shacks, which are located next to a walkway, the report observed several pieces of clothing, beds, beanbags and a piece of concrete used as a board.

Trader Ivan Dias, 50, reports that he has already seen some men pass by the place with carts full of recycling items to dump on the riverside, where the shacks are installed. According to Ivan, they sleep in shacks and, during the day, they go out to beg food for the surrounding residents. “Here in the region, I’ve never seen distribution of marmitex, but the people must give it to them because they ask for it, that’s why there’s a lot of marmitex lying there”.

Ivan’s concern is in relation to the lack of hygiene and cleanliness of the place, which affects all residents of the region, in addition to polluting the river. According to reports, the place is abandoned, full of garbage and with high vegetation. “No one comes here to remove this weeds, it’s negligible. Sometimes, I’m here in the trade and people come asking me for help to cross the walkway, because they are afraid”.

Professor Gustavo Luges, 24, has lived in the region for 14 years and reports that he has also caught men throwing garbage in the area. “At first, I didn’t even notice the garbage, but it just got bigger.” The teacher says that his house was already infested by scorpions and cockroaches and he believes that the reason is the tall weeds and the accumulated garbage on the edge of the stream.

The report found contact with Sisep (Municipal Secretariat for Infrastructure and Public Services), but did not get a response until the close of the article. The space remains open for demonstration.
