by time news

Doron Ravitz, a stand-up actor and writer, presents in the show “A Brief History of Humor” an enriching cultural encounter with Jewish humor: where humor was born, how it can survive the Holocaust, why most of the most successful comedians in the world are Jewish and why it is such an important element in our lives (even in the romantic sphere ).

A special and fascinating meeting on the history of humor that takes the participants in the time machine about 2500 years into history, from ancient Greece (where it turns out it all started) to the present day. We will get to know the iconic images that shaped, paved the way, influenced and enhanced the humor.

Among the artists mentioned in the show: Aristophanes (385 BC), Commedia del Arte (16th century Italy) and from the beginning of the 20th century Charlie Chaplin, Laurel and Hardy (the fat and the thin), Jerry Seinfeld, The Simpsons, Monty Python , Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean), Dzegan and Schumacher (the Yiddish Homer), Lenny Bruce, the pale tracker, Safi Rivlin and, of course, Guido Orpiche, the star of the movie “The Beautiful Life”, played by Roberto Benigni. The comedian, who starred in the tragic comedy about the Shoah Italian Jews, managed to show in the film how humor played an important role and a way of protection during the Holocaust.
