Every year on the occasion of Dussehra, a resolution is taken to conquer evil by burning Ravana. On the special occasion of Dussehra, we wanted to know from the syllabus which evil or deficiency of theirs they would like to overcome and which Ravana of the society they would like to see burnt.
People’s faith in goodness needs to be strengthened: Saumya Tandon
To be honest, sometimes it happens that I become negative about the things around me and start doubting. I start doubting that whole process and in such a situation, I move away from the thought that whatever happens, happens for good, so I want to destroy the Ravana of negativity within me. I want to stay longer on believing. As far as society is concerned, for a long time I have been observing that people have lost faith in goodness. We also generally say that someone who is successful must be vicious. We have moved away from the idea that anything can be achieved on the basis of truth and honesty. We know that working hard will yield results, we do, but at the same time we are also aggressive and sometimes push ourselves too much. But I believe that hard work and honesty may not yield results in the short term, but cunningness cannot continue in the long run. In the end only truth and good have to prevail. That’s why I want people in the society not to give up goodness and truth.
I want to burn Ravana in the form of attachment and anger: Deepshikha Nagpal
During Dussehra, we should burn the Ravana within us that creates obstacles in our life and career. I am very emotional. Although I consider myself mentally strong, I feel I need to be a little more practical because attachment often leads to pain. This is the Ravana whom I want to remove from my life. I also trust people very quickly, for which I often have to suffer the consequences. Apart from this, I also keep fighting with Ravana in the form of anger, so I want to see the Ravana of anger within me burning. There are countless Ravanas in the society, but if we talk about women, I wonder why we can’t achieve equality? Even in the 21st century we are still discussing women’s rights. It is important to raise sons in an environment where they learn to respect women. Society should uplift and empower women, giving them the respect and rights they deserve. When women are empowered, it brings balance and positivity to the world. In films and serials, the victory of good over evil is often shown, but in this matter you have to be careful that no one takes advantage of your goodness. During Dussehra, it is important to eliminate evil like anger, jealousy and negativity. When you eliminate negativity inside you, you naturally attract positive situations into your life.
Dussehra is to control the qualities of Tamas, Rajas and Satva: Rajesh Kumar
Many times ignorance and quick reaction become the cause of trouble, because these bad qualities add to the situation, so I want the light of understanding and knowledge to remain within me and I should move things forward thoughtfully. This Dussehra, I aim to work positively and free myself from negativity. As far as society is concerned, I want society to focus on self-improvement. Change happens on an individual level, and although I’m not sure how successful collective efforts will be, it all comes back to awareness. Once you become aware of the world around you, you can address those issues. If you are ignorant, you will always have the attitude of ‘What does it matter to me?’ But the truth is that it does make a difference. The concept of good triumphing over evil, to me, is not just a concept, it is a reality, an existential truth that we must live with. Especially during the nine days of Navratri, it is about conquering evil during those nine nights. The final day, Dussehra, celebrates this victory. It is also about gaining control over the qualities of Tama, Raja and Sattva. So, it is not just a concept, it is a reality. Therefore, in our culture, many festivals are celebrated after Dussehra – Diwali, Chhath Puja, and many more. Unless you overcome the evil within you, goodness cannot be truly seen.
Ravana of corruption and intolerance should be burnt: Madalsa Sharma
For a long time I have been fighting my flaws like anger and impatience. Today on the day of Dussehra, I want to burn the Ravana of anger and impatience within me. If I overcome these shortcomings in my life, I will become a more sensible and balanced person and this will be a huge contribution in my proper development. At the social level, I would like to see the end of Ravana of corruption and intolerance this year. These issues poison our society. It is imperative that we collectively work towards eliminating these destructive forces and promoting values that encourage empathy, respect and understanding among all. I think the battle between good and evil has been going on since ancient times. There are many Ravanas like inequality spread in the society, exploitation, denial of rights, poor becoming poorer, I wish all these Ravanas are destroyed.
Ravana of hatred should be burnt: Arjun Bijlani
I believe that the victory of good over evil shows that no matter how difficult the circumstances are, truth will always prevail. My belief in this thinking motivates me to keep doing the right thing and remain positive. Talking about the Ravana within me, sometimes I overthink too much. Many times I get worried about things which are not under my control. I guess, I have to learn to keep flowing like the flow of water. I would like to see the Ravana of hatred and intolerance eliminated. There is too much negativity in the society and hatred is hollowing us. If we can destroy the hatred of religion, caste and class, then this world can become better.
