On July 1st, on the occasion of the inauguration of the XX edition of the “Corigliano Calabro Photography” Festival, the Calabrian photographer Eliana Godino will present a preview of her new photographic book “Portraits of the South – Stories, Faces, Excellences of Calabria”. A collection of portraits and stories of 35 Calabrians famous for their talents. Talents that often took them away from Italy and Calabria.

Many faces flow through the pages of the volume: from Sandra Savaglio to Dario Brunori, from Rino Gattuso to Santo Versace, from Gerardo Sacco to Pina Amarelli. Artists, writers, entrepreneurs. A three-year emotional journey, which led the young Calabrian photographer to grind kilometers in pursuit of the characters to portray. The presentation of the book will be accompanied by the vernissage of an exhibition dedicated to the project. Thirty-five portraits will be exhibited throughout the Festival.

Eliana Godino, photographer by passion and profession, was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, even before starting her studies she developed a real mania for cameras and faces. Since 2015 she has opened her graphic agency and her photographic studio in her country of origin, Santa Sofia d’Epiro (Cs).

Eliana chose to stay, despite the conflicting opinions of her peers, and aware of the pros and cons of life in a small village. An inexplicable force of hers has always brought her home, despite her experiences outside of her land.

“Ritratti Del Sud” is his tribute to Calabria which struggles daily, always trying to demonstrate something more than the others, disadvantaged by stereotypes and prejudices. A land this time enhanced by brilliant and engaging minds. A land to be re-evaluated also thanks to the active testimony of these illustrious sons.

The book is published by Rubbettino and will be available in bookstores and online from 1 July, as well as at the Corigliano Festival.
