From racism to the cycle, what will be discussed at Internazionale Kids

Who said that news is not something for girls and boys? At Internazionale Kids, in Reggio Emilia, the great topics of information with a formula designed for young participants. Appointment on 17, 18 and 19 September with the first journalism festival organized by Internazionale Kids, the newspaper that publishes the best articles in children’s newspapers from all over the world in Italian, with the Municipality of Reggio Emilia.

A weekend of meetings and discoveries to talk about racism, sport, the environment, feminism and much more with journalists, writers, experts, illustrators and photographers through 30-minute mini conferences and workshops.

The assumption is that there are no arguments to avoid with the new generations but we need to find the right way to talk about it. We then start with the Afro-descendant writer Espérance Hakuzwimana Ripanti, who will talk about the consequences of racism also in Italy and will tell the little ones about the Black Lives Matter movement. It continues with insights on sex, gender, sexual orientation, feminism.

The answers to the questions that girls and boys ask themselves but often don’t have the courage to ask. Among the guests, the journalist Giulia Blasi who will explain how to fight patriarchy and why gender equality makes everyone freer, the writer Jonathan Bazzi will talk about the fluid generation and will offer a map to orient oneself in the multitude of sexual identities; Gianumberto Accinelli, entomologist and writer, will explore the climate crisis through the eyes of a bee, while in Tutto sul ciclo. Menstruation explained to males (and females) will address the topic of menstruation from the point of view of taboos and its political and social consequences.

A debate on how to educate in a pandemic is also planned for parents and teachers and carried out in collaboration with the Reggio Children Foundation and Enel cuore. A point on Afghanistan cannot be missing to tell boys and girls the complex story of a country that seems to have no peace. Then an in-depth study on the brain to understand how to counter fake news, one to understand how viruses and the immune system work and a meeting on the digital economy within the reach of boys and girls.

And finally debates, book presentations and workshops to stimulate the exercise of the right to protest and activism, with a specific appointment, with Fabio Geda, to tell what happened at the G8 in Genoa in 2001 to those who were not yet born and one with Elly Schlein, politician and vice president of the Emilia Romagna Region, who will explain why it is never too early to get involved in politics and take care of the common good.
