If teh Game Awards 2024 evening was full of surprises, very few players expected to discover a new Elden Ring. Called “Nightreign,” the latter emphasizes cooperation.
If you were unable to follow the Game Awards 2024 evening, know that the event was full of announcements. In addition to the awards given to the best video games of the year, several new titles were also revealed during the evening. the publisher From Software notably impressed by revealing “Elden Ring Nightreign”, a new title in the Elden Ring saga with very strange characteristics.
A game designed around cooperation
Elden Ring Nightreign is a decidedly cooperative game that would require up to three players (although it is also possible to play alone) to survive three-day and three-night cycles in a narrow part of the Elden Ring map. During thes three days and nights, players will be able to explore and challenge different monsters to improve their characters and become stronger in readiness for the battle against the final boss. The latter will be different depending on the part and the trailer has already revealed that some of them appear to come from games in the “Dark Souls” saga including “The Nameless king” from Dark Souls 3.
To do this, players will be able to choose between several established characters that they can improve as they play. Even if players don’t make it to the end of a cycle, they will still find relics to customize and improve their character for future games.

Is this an Elden Ring roguelike?
These game mechanics are reminiscent of a particular genre: the roguelike. Particularly known for titles like “Hades” or “The Binding of Isaac”, these types of games encourage players to play multiple times to improve their character and continue progressing until they exhaust all of the title’s content.
A very strange type of game for the world of Elden Ring and, more generally, for the titles of the From Software studio which have accustomed us a little to the solitude of gigantic worlds, rich in stories and difficulties.
Though, the idea of a multiplayer Elden Ring doesn’t seem to come out of nowhere. A few months ago,Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware, spoke of this type of game, calling it “an fascinating idea”.
Elden Ring Nighreign will be available on PC, next-generation consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series) and previous-generation consoles (PS4 and Xbox One) during 2025.

Dr. Mei Tanaka: Thank you for having me! I’m excited to discuss the intricacies of anime and its impact on culture.
Alex: Let’s start with the basics. Anime has gained immense popularity worldwide. What do you think has contributed to this global appeal?
Dr. Tanaka: There are several factors. Firstly, the storytelling in anime is ofen complex and layered, allowing for deep character growth. Alex: Accessibility is definitely key. Speaking of genres, which trends are currently shaping the anime industry?
Dr. Tanaka: Currently, we’re seeing a rise in genres like isekai, where characters are transported to another world. This trend resonates with escapism, especially post-pandemic. Additionally, there’s a significant movement towards more inclusive stories that explore themes of gender and identity, which is refreshing and necessary.
Alex: Inclusion is crucial. How do you view the relationship between anime and social issues?
Dr. Tanaka: Anime often reflects societal changes and struggles. For instance, shows tackling mental health or environmental concerns resonate with issues facing today’s youth. This makes anime not just entertainment but also a platform for discussion.
Alex: That’s a great point. Let’s talk animation styles. How have they evolved recently, and what should we expect in the future?
Dr. Tanaka: In recent years, we’ve seen a blend of traditional and digital techniques, resulting in stunning visuals. In the future, I believe we’ll see even more innovation, possibly integrating virtual reality experiences that allow viewers to immerse themselves in the story.
