Today at around 3:15 pm, Cyrus Mistry returned to Mumbai from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and was traveling in a car. 3 others went with him. Two people, including Cyrus Mistry, died in an accident when a car was traveling on a bridge in Balhar area. Two more people were injured and are undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Who is Cyrus Mistry? :

Tata Group in Controversy:

In October 2016, Tata Sons, the Tata Group’s holding company, voted to remove Mistry as chairman after he offered to resign voluntarily. Former chairman Ratan Tata later returned as interim chairman. A few months later, Natarajan Chandrasekaran was appointed as the new president.

However, in December 2019, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) declared Chandrasekaran’s appointment as acting chairman illegal. Again the Supreme Court on 10 January 2020 stayed the order of NCLAT. Mistry filed a cross-appeal in the court seeking clarification of the discrepancies in the NCLAT. However, the Supreme Court upheld his dismissal.

Cyrus Mistry held 18.4% stake in Tata Sons through his company Cyrus Investments Pvt. As of 2018, his net worth is approximately $10 billion. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, Cyrus Mistry’s father Pallonji Mistry’s net worth is estimated to be around USD 30 billion as of mid-2021. He had a fortune of US$29 billion at the time of his death. He was also the 143rd richest person in the world at that time.

Family Life:

Cyrus Mistry was born in a Parsi family in the city of Mumbai. He is the youngest son of India’s biggest industrialist and construction magnate Pallonji Mistry. Both his parents belonged to the Zoroastrian religion. However, Cyrus Mistry’s mother was born in Ireland. Mistry has an elder brother named Shapoor Mistry.

He is also an Irish citizen. Mistry has two sisters, Laila and Aloo. He has a wife and two children. Mistry joined family construction firm Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. Ltd. in 1991 as a director. Mistry was the managing director of Shapoorji Pallonji & Company, part of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, and chairman of Tata Sons and the Tata Group.

Educational qualification :

Mistry studied at the prestigious Cathedral & John Cannon School in South Mumbai. He then studied at Imperial College London. He graduated from the University of London in 1990 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering. Later, he attended the London Business School.
