At Royal Copenhagen’s factory in Glostrup, the most exclusive porcelain objects are manufactured and painted. Amanda Petersen and Jakob Møgelvang are Flora Danica painting students. A profession that requires great expertise and precision. Although the training takes three years, they say at the factory that it takes an average of 8-10 years to master the art of painting Flora Danica. Photo: Katrine Becher Damkjær

Painting on the country’s most exclusive porcelain is a very special craft. Since 1790, Royal Copenhagen’s porcelain painters have hand-painted the Flora Danica frame, and they still do so at a factory in Glostrup. A new education helps to ensure that the craft survives and also exists in the future.
