After having been the sole supplier of tires to NASA for the space shuttles between 1981 and 2011, Michelin could well equip the future Moon Racer lunar module which will embark for the Moon in 2028. As part of its Artemis program, the NASA has just revealed the short list of companies still competing to develop the future spacecraft.
Among the three teams still in the running, Venturi Astrolab, Lunar Outpost and finally Intuitive Machines which will be associated with Auvergne Michelin, expected to supply the airless tires. A technological challenge that the world’s No. 1 tire manufacturer has been preparing for for three years now, because driving on the Moon is far from an easy task.
