In recognition of the perseverance, determination and dedication of the workers of the Máximo Gómez Báez Thermoelectric Power Plant, as well as the work carried out in the recovery of unit 6 of the Marieleña plant, this group of men and women who are consolidated among common purposes, received the Labor Prowess Flag, awarded by the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba.
The actions that led to this decision were referred to by Mykeyly Ramírez Guevara, a member of the secretariat of the National Union of Energy and Mining Workers, in an act held in the center, within the framework of activities on the occasion of World Proletariat Day.
On March 7, 2022, he said, a large-scale fire occurred in block 7, next to block 6, also affecting the latter, causing breakdowns in the turbine, generator, auxiliary equipment, and electrical and automatic installation areas. of the block in the area of the machine room, from the collapse of the roof and the structures that supported it. A work schedule had to be executed then, which was fulfilled with the active participation of the staff, even outside of their working hours and on weekends.
In this sense, Ramírez Guevara highlighted the work of those who “undertook the reconstruction projects, electrical recovery and the automatic system of the block, repair of the turbogenerator, rapid management, reception and delivery of the imported equipment and the necessary materials, guaranteeing transportation, the hoisting and the technological equipment that facilitated the rehabilitation actions” and stressed that as a result of the joint effort of several entities, it was finally possible to synchronize the block on March 14 after eight o’clock at night.
Regarding the current situation and perspectives of the aforementioned unit, Roberto Pigueiras Fernández, technical director of the CTE, assured in statements to the artemiseño that “machine 6 continues the adjustment and commissioning process, generating an average power of 70 megawatts. The tests are satisfactory and should be concluding at the end of May and, later, at the beginning of June, the commercial delivery of the unit will be made for exploitation; However, in this process it is already delivering energy to the National Electric System, with stability”.
For their support of the work carried out during the stage, the CTC awarded the Labor Prowess Certificate to eight entities of the Electric Union, among them, the Power Plant Maintenance Company (EMCE), the Information Technology and Automatic (ATI), and that of Generator Sets and Electrical Services (GEYSEL).
