Monza conquers the Benito Stirpe Stadium in Frosinone, winning 3-2 in the match of the 19th matchday of Serie A. Raffaele Palladino’s team thus climbs to tenth place with 25 points while Eusebio Di Francesco’s remains stuck at 19 points. In the first half, Monza struck Frosinone twice, despite the home team having been in possession of the ball for longer, creating some good opportunities.
THE MATCH
The Lombards’ opening goal came in the 18th minute when Colpani crossed from the right towards the center where Carboni hit badly, favoring Dany Mota who beat Turati. At the end of the first half, in the 45th minute Monza doubled their lead with Soulé having the ball stolen in midfield by Carboni who triggered Dany Mota, before receiving it again inside the penalty area and scoring the 2nd goal with his left foot -0.
At the start of the second half Frosinone immediately started strong to try to halve the deficit and came close to scoring with first Caso and then Soulè. But on the counterattack Monza found a hat trick in the 55th minute: Soulè was unlucky as he slipped in an attempt to intercept a ball on the edge of the area, and directed it towards the right post of his own goal where Turati couldn’t reach for the 3- 0 of Monza.
Frosinone immediately poured into the opponent’s half of the field and scored after a minute: in the 56th minute Harroui reopened it, from a tight angle with his right foot he beat Sorrentino at the near post to make it 1-3. In the 68th minute Di Francesco’s team was still dangerous but Soulè wasted again. In the 76th minute, however, the same attacker scored by kicking an impeccable penalty, awarded due to a foul by D’ambrosio on Caso, alone in front of the goalkeeper. It’s 2-3 and the match is reopened. Di Francesco deploys all the offensive men at his disposal but there is nothing the home team can do in the final, with Monza taking home an important victory.
