Taxpayers Frustrated with Canada Revenue Agency Delays and Bureaucracy
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is facing widespread criticism from taxpayers over lengthy wait times, computer problems, and backlogs in file analysis. In a recent report, readers of the Journal highlighted numerous frustrating situations with the agency.
“I’m so frustrated!” exclaimed Gabrielle Galand, one taxpayer. “After 50 calls to the CRA, I just want to return to paper.”
Several readers reported encountering bureaucratic nightmares with the CRA. One single parent was forced to wait for months while the agency questioned the eligibility of her 15-year-old son and requested his birth certificate and social security number, despite previously submitting these documents.
This taxpayer is now forced to wait for an answer until July, despite providing the necessary documents multiple times. Another reader shared a similar experience, receiving a letter requesting the same documents for the previous year, despite already submitting them.
These experiences highlight the bureaucratic hurdles faced by taxpayers interacting with the CRA. The agency’s lack of communication and transparency has caused significant stress and anxiety for those trying to fulfill their tax obligations.
