Individuals, which have been increasing recently, are moving elsewhere. “Perhaps to children’s playgrounds, where the benches remained, to supermarkets, to parks, to schools. There are homeless people, drunks, junkies everywhere. It’s getting worse, I don’t feel safe here“says one of the residents, Petr Hrabálek.

Desperate residents of the city are therefore calling for the fencing of either playgrounds or problematic locations, and many go even further. They demand that the sale of alcohol be banned in the entire territory of Frýdek-Místek, one could say that it was once an exhibition city under the mountains. “There were never so many ghettos here,” he claims.

Homeless people instead of children

A man who walks his dog in the troubled Anenská housing estate is angry. “Where are mothers and children supposed to go when misfits occupy the playground? More cameras, more police, that’s nice, but if the officers drive them out, they’ll be back in no time.” he pointed out.

Undoubtedly, it tends to be the most stuffy near hotel buildings. “To let a child out here alone or send him to a store, unthinkable. Better not to go out after dark.” added one of the mothers, saying that bottles, clothes and syringes are usually lying around the benches.

They are local

According to Mayor Petr Korč, it is completely impossible to change the behavior of these people. “However, at the same time, it is unacceptable for a handful of misfits to influence the lives of others, so the city is taking a number of measures. There will be more crime assistants, the distribution of material and food aid will be moved to other city areas, and so on,” added Korč.

Although many residents of the city think that problematic characters are moving to it from elsewhere, according to the spokeswoman for Frýdek-Místek, Jana Musálková Jeckelová, this is not the case. “These are mainly “our” people, i.e. with permanent residence. The others are counted in units,” she shared. However, he does not know the answer to the question why there are more and more of them on the street recently.

Because of the people who make trouble in the city, I tear down walls and remove benches so they can’t sit on them.
