FSB may classify Facebook smart glasses as spy devices

by time news

The FSB said the design features of Facebook’s Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses could allow them to be classified as spy devices, the service said in response to TJ’s request. The Criminal Code provides for the purchase of such devices up to four years in prison.

“These glasses may have design features that make it possible to classify them as special technical means intended for secretly obtaining information,” the FSB press service said in a statement.

The service did not specify on what grounds the device can be classified as espionage, stating that these signs are listed in note 1 to article 138.1 of the Criminal Code (illegal circulation of special technical means designed to secretly obtain information), points out TJ.

Facebook and Ray-Ban unveiled their Stories smart glasses in early September. Externally, the device does not differ from ordinary glasses, but it has two front cameras of 5 megapixels that can take photos and videos. The glasses can also be used for listening to music and receiving calls, because speakers are built into the arms. They cost from $ 299 to $ 379 (22,000-27,000 rubles), depending on the type of lenses.
