The Planned Attack
The SBU stated that the Russian agent, a 31-year-old resident of the Odessa region, was recruited via Telegram channels. The agent was first assigned a “test” task: setting fire to a military vehicle. After successfully completing this, the individual received further instructions to organize the assassination attempt.
The Russian special services allegedly provided the agent with caches containing explosive components. These were to be placed at the site where the military personnel were staying, specifically a playground in a residential area of Odessa. The plan involved remotely activating the explosive device using a mobile phone.
The SBU operatives apprehended the agent “hot” immediately after the individual had placed the explosive device at the designated location.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
The detainee has been reported on suspicion of multiple charges, including a complete attempt on the commission of a terrorist act by prior conspiracy by a group of persons, intentional destruction of property by arson by preliminary conspiracy by a group of persons, and obstructing the legitimate activities of the armed forces in a special period committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons.
The court has ordered the suspect to be held in detention without the right to bail.
