Fuel crisis hits cities across the country: long queues and closed stations

by times news cr

The capital, Tripoli, and most Libyan cities in the east and west of the country are suffering from a severe fuel crisis that has led to long queues of cars in front of gas stations, waiting for long hours to get gasoline.

The crisis began a few days ago and reached its peak yesterday, Tuesday, which increased citizens’ fears and concerns, especially with the spread of rumors on social media pages about the presence of poor quality fuel in some stations.

Delay in arrival of carriers

The spokesman for the Brega Oil Marketing Company, Ahmed Al-Maslati, attributed the reason behind this crisis to the delay in the arrival of gasoline tankers to the ports, stressing that this problem is beyond the control of the National Oil Corporation and the Brega Company.

Al-Maslati explained that the company was forced to rely on the gasoline stock in its warehouses, and reduce the daily distribution quantities until the tankers loaded with gasoline arrived.

Gasoline tankers arrive, crisis eased

For his part, the Director of the International Marketing Department at the National Oil Corporation stated that more than 6 million liters will be distributed to distribution companies, noting that 3 tankers will arrive tomorrow, Thursday, with a total of 80 thousand tons.

Eastern region is witnessing improvement

Al-Maslati confirmed that the pumping and distribution of fuel to gas stations in the eastern region resumed after a tanker loaded with about 30,000 tons of gasoline docked at Benghazi seaport on Monday evening.

Prime Minister’s intervention

For his part, the head of the Government of National Unity, Abdul Hamid Dabaiba, directed the Ministry of Interior and the Brega Oil Marketing Company to oblige fuel distribution companies to open closed stations and work 24 hours a day to address the congestion.
