Fuel shortage reverberates: Sri Lankan parliamentary office days reduced

As a result, the people of Sri Lanka had to wait in long queues at the petrol stations due to the lack of availability of these products. To avoid this, token system was introduced to buy petrol and diesel. Schools are closed.

The Sri Lankan government has requested the public not to travel unnecessarily. Sri Lankan government is taking many more fuel saving measures. Meanwhile, the office days of the Sri Lankan Parliament have also been shortened due to the fuel shortage issue.

This week, Parliament will function for only 3 days, parliamentary sources said. On the 6th, the Essential Public Services Act is passed without debate. On the same day, the opposition parties are expected to bring an adjournment resolution on the current economic situation.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said that Sri Lanka has to pay Rs 885 crore for the already planned fuel import till August. He said that the money should be given to various foreign oil companies from today (Monday).

Meanwhile, schools in Sri Lanka have been closed for the whole week due to fuel shortages. The Ministry of Education issued this notification. This holiday is applicable to government schools and recognized private schools. It has been announced that the lost school time will be made up during the next summer vacation.
