Fuel: the rebate of 30 cents extended “until mid-November”, announces Élisabeth Borne

by time news

Two more weeks. Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne announced on Monday the extension of the rebate of 30 cents per liter at the state pump “until mid-November”, assuring that Total would “also” extend its rebate of 20 cents.

“We are going to extend this discount on fuel until mid-November, and I had the CEO of Total this afternoon who will also extend his discount”, announced the Prime Minister to the newspaper 20 Hours of TF 1 .

Since April, a rebate has been put in place by the government to help consumers pay for historical price increases on fuel. Initially set at 18 cents, it rose to 30 cents in September, and was to be reduced to 10 cents in November. This change will therefore be delayed by two weeks.

Refineries in crisis

A few days ago, the government was already planning to introduce this discount and was discussing it with Total. “We are looking for the 20 cents discount at the Total pump to be extended by as many days as those during which the French will not have had (full) access to fuel”, had justified the carrier. word of the government, Olivier Véran.

For its part, the oil giant Total had set up a discount of 20 cents per liter between September and November, then 10 cents until the end of the year, because of the threat brandished by the deputies of a tax on “superprofits”.

Since the end of September, several of the group’s refineries have been shut down due to strikes by their employees. They are demanding a salary increase linked to inflation, but also to the spectacular profits made by the group.
