I couldn’t believe it, he said. Mairan Rodriguez Butron, the student who obtained the highest score in the 2024 edition of the Comipems Upper Secondary Education Entrance Exam, who scored 126 out of 128 correct answers, will enter vocational school 9 at the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN).
Visibly excited about her achievement, the student explained that her preparation was comprehensive. In addition to taking a course, she dedicated at least 30 minutes of study every day to resolve her doubts and advance in the subject matter.
“The hardest part for me was Chemistry,” she said. “That’s where I felt most behind, but I started doing practice exams and realized I already had a grasp of the concepts.”
The young woman credited her parents and brother for their unwavering support, saying they always encouraged her to study.
In an interview with 24 HORAS, she revealed that her initial dream was to become a doctor, but now she feels drawn to mathematics and is considering a career in engineering.
“I’ve been researching careers like aeronautical engineering, communications, mechatronics, but right now, I’m most interested in programming,” she said.
Mairan expressed happiness and excitement about entering the IPN and shared her plans to continue her studies, while also dreaming of traveling extensively.
Education: A Priority
When asked about the most pressing issue in Mexico, Mairan immediately pointed to education.
“We have a very complete education system, but the problem is that we often fail to maintain its quality.”
“We have many subjects, but the issue is that from primary to secondary school, the average score is attainable, but it’s about demonstrating a true understanding of the material.”
She gave an example, explaining that in the past, there was an exam to enter secondary school, which required students to demonstrate their knowledge retention. Now, such an exam is no longer in place.
Mairan offered words of encouragement to students who may not have achieved their desired school placement or score.
“If you don’t succeed the first time, don’t give up. Keep trying until you achieve your goal with perseverance.”
