The newspaper noted that Arbeloa had first eyed Thiago Pitarch to reinforce his midfield, but José Mourinho and Real Madrid stood firm, refusing to let Pitarch go, and that pushed the Spanish coach towards Manuel Ángel, his former captain in the youth ranks.
The deal for the former Spain youth international is worth £3m, with Real Madrid also inserting a 50% sell-on clause, while Marca reported that Fulham have agreed to pay €4m (£3.4m).
