Coimbatore: As the corona spread is high, the news that a full curfew will be declared after Pongal is spreading fast.
The Tamil Nadu government has announced the start of the third wave of corona, night curfew and full curfew on Sunday. During the second wave, Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu was more affected than Chennai.

In a couple of weeks, the health department predicts that the spread of corona will increase many times over. Thus, fears that a full curfew will be declared are spreading in industry and trade circles.

With only the Sunday and night curfew announced for the first phase, there has been some relief on all sides. However, in the days leading up to Pongal, the risk of further corona outbreaks has increased due to gatherings on shop streets and at shows.

Crowds throng the shop streets these days across the state; People flock to the coastal areas including Chennai to see Pongal. Performances such as Matu Pongalaiyotti, Jallikattu and Manchu Virattu will be held mostly in the southern districts.
If these are allowed, the spread of the corona will be much greater.
According to IAS officials, the government has decided not to implement a full curfew till Pongal, but to impose a full curfew after Pongal instead of Sunday and night. In the next few days, as the corona spread accelerates, the government is likely to announce more restrictions.
