Two women, including a full-term pregnant woman, were killed when their roof collapsed at midnight in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district on Saturday.
Muthuraman and Kaliammal, a couple from Anna Nagar, Thoothukudi district. Their only daughter Karthika was 9 months pregnant so the baby was babysitted last Friday and the mother was brought home.
In this condition, the roof of the house suddenly collapsed last night. Karthika and her parents, who were sleeping in it, were trapped in the rubble. Neighbors rushed to the scene after hearing loud noises. The fire station was immediately notified.
Rescue workers rushed to the scene and rescued those trapped in the rubble. But Karthika and her mother Kaliammal died on the spot. Muthuraman, who recovered with serious injuries, was admitted to the hospital.
Southern police are investigating the incident. It is said that the house was about 25 years old and was already in ruins and that is why the accident took place.
