New Delhi: National Green Tribunal criticized the state government on the Brahmapuram issue. The tribunal also warned that if necessary, a fine of Rs 500 crore will be imposed from the state government. Tribunal Chairperson AK said that the current problems are due to bad governance and the government is fully responsible for the Brahmapuram failure. The bench headed by Goyal criticized in harsh language.

A bench headed by Justice AK Goyal considered the matter on its own initiative based on the news related to the Brahmapuram fire. Additional Chief Secretary V.Venu was also part of the proceedings. It was in his presence that the state government was severely criticized. Justice AK Goyal held that the state government was solely responsible for the Brahmapuram fire. Justice’s observation was that the government is fully responsible for the incident and cannot escape from it. He also informed that a fine of Rs 500 crore will be collected from the government if necessary in connection with the matter.

At the same time, the lawyers appearing for the state government informed the tribunal that the Kerala High Court has registered a case against the Samudwal government in connection with the fire and that since the proceedings of the case are ongoing, another parallel case should not be filed by the tribunal. But the Principal Bench was not ready to fully accept this demand. The Tribunal clarified that they will not interfere in the proceedings of the High Court and that there will be no interference on their part contrary to the order of the High Court.

The state government has submitted a report to the tribunal regarding Brahmapuram. After checking this, the order will be based on the report.
