The funeral of General Jean-Louis Georgelin, who died Friday at the age of 74 during a hike in the Pyrenees, will be celebrated on August 31 in his native village of Aspet, in Haute-Garonne, we learned Monday from the parish funeral service.

The celebration will begin at 3:00 p.m., according to a source from the parish of Aspet-St-Gaudens, who did not give more information on the ceremony.

Former Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, chosen by President Emmanuel Macron to oversee the reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris, General Georgelin died Friday evening in a fall during a hike he was doing alone on the slopes Mont-Valier, in the Pyrenees.

“Service man, man of faith and military genius”: the rector of Notre-Dame de Paris paid tribute to General Georgelin on Sunday, during a mass celebrated in his memory.

Notre-Dame loses “the mastermind of its rebirth”, reacted the President of the Republic on Saturday.

A former student of Saint-Cyr, head of Jacques Chirac’s private staff in 2002 and promoted to army general in 2003, Jean-Louis Georgelin was born on August 30, 1948 in Aspet.

Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces (Cema) from 2006 to 2010, he supervised operations in Côte d’Ivoire, Afghanistan, the Balkans and Lebanon.
