Cuban state media have shared a press release announcing that this Thursday, December 17, the funeral honors of the City Historian, Eusebio Leal Spengler (1942-2020), whose ashes will be displayed in the Hall of the Steps will be held. Lost from the National Capitol, between nine in the morning and four in the afternoon.
Because the death of Eusebio Leal occurred in the midst of the quarantine and the epidemiological context caused by Covid-19, it was declared that the funeral tributes for the people to say goodbye to him would be carried out when the situation allowed it.
The press release explains that tomorrow you will be able to receive the well-deserved tribute of the Cuban people, and points out that the public will enter through San José Street until entering the venue through Prado Street.
The next day, December 18, the Official Mourning Farewell will be held with the presence of leaders of the Communist Party of Cuba, State and Government, representatives of mass organizations, guests of the Historian’s Office, other personalities and friends.
On that same day, but in the afternoon, the burial of his remains will take place, in a family ceremony, in the Convent of San Francisco de Asís, located in the homonymous square in the historic center of Old Havana.
A few months ago, on July 31, the physical disappearance of Leal Spengler made headlines in Cuba and the world, after fighting cancer for a time. Her ashes were preserved so that, once the Covid-19 epidemic was controlled, the corresponding tributes could be carried out.
