He is responsible for the actions of his friend and former protégé. After the broadcast of a damning episode of “Complement of investigation” on the actor Gérard Depardieu this Thursday evening, his former agent, Jean-Louis Livi, tended to defend the famous French actor, targeted by several complaints for sexual assault , and singled out for his inappropriate attitude towards many women who came across him.

“I was the one who convinced myself to be here tonight. I have known Gérard Depardieu for 40 years. I know him well, and so I would still like to tell my few truths,” declared Jean-Louis Livi at the start of the program, specifying that Gérard Depardieu did not wish to respond to the accusations made in the investigative program broadcast on France 2. “I believe that he is deeply affected, that it turns him off. With this grave of insults falling on him, he does not have the opportunity to express himself, or he does not want to. »

Does the producer consider that his friend is truly a predator? “Certainly not,” thundered Jean-Louis Livi, at the end of the program relaying numerous testimonies from women denouncing the actor’s actions, and showing his outrageous behavior towards women in North Korea.

“We cannot look at what we have seen without feeling great discomfort, deep compassion for the people who testify. But ultimately, this is a totally incriminating case. It is obvious that it is a media show trial that has been presented to us,” reacted the agent to journalist Tristan Waleckx.

“I know Gérard Depardieu. He is neither a rapist nor a predator. It’s wrong. He’s a monster yes, but he’s also a holy monster. It’s a monument,” insisted Jean-Louis Livi. “There is the presumption of innocence. Until now, Gérard Depardieu has not been convicted. (…) The Ministry of Justice is not media justice,” continued the cinema professional, who assured that he still saw himself producing films with Gérard Depardieu in the future, because “it is the best actor of all time.

Depardieu targeted by several complaints

The actor, a monster of French cinema, was indicted on December 16, 2020 for rape and sexual assault after a complaint from actress Charlotte Arnould, who denounced two rapes at the actor’s Parisian home at the end of August 2018.

In the summer of 2020, she obtained that the investigation, first closed by the prosecution in June 2019, be entrusted to an investigating judge. Since then, around ten other women have accused Gérard Depardieu of sexual violence in the press.

A second complaint for sexual assault targeting actor Gérard Depardieu was also filed by actress Hélène Darras, we learned on Wednesday. The complaint was filed on September 10, for prescribed facts dating back to 2007 on the set of the film “Disco”.

A rude attitude towards women

Based on an unpublished video shot in 2018 during a trip with writer Yann Moix to North Korea, “Complement of investigation” also asserts that each time the actor is in the presence of women during this travel, he cannot help but make comments of a sexual nature.

Inappropriate comments, gestures and throat noises mimicking the sexual act, punctuate his exchanges with women. In a stud farm, he states that “women love to ride horses (because) their clits rub against the saddle (…) they enjoy a lot”. And continues: “They’re big sluts.”

On the film set side, several testimonies, including those of Sarah Brooks, in the investigation of Mediapartand Anouk Grinberg, in an interview with the magazine Elle in October, point to a “sexualized atmosphere” where silence reigns.

“Additional investigation” also unearths an interview carried out in 1978 with an American magazine. He describes being involved in rape at the age of nine. “There was nothing wrong with it,” he reportedly said. Comments he maintained years later to a journalist from Time Magazine. These allegations have never been verified and are disputed by those close to him.

For the president of the producers’ union, Marc Missionnier, the only one who wanted to testify openly, “French cinema was not unaware of the problematic behavior of Gérard Depardieu”.
