‘FuturaCanvas’, Korea’s largest global art and tech conference where art and technology meet, successfully concluded with over 1,000 participants at Itaewon Cave House for three days from September 5th to 7th.

Dotplanner (CEO Dohyun Kim, Jiyoon Kim) announced that they held the largest conference featuring the coexistence of art and technology in Korea by recruiting around 30 domestic and foreign partners including NFC, Sandbox, Gallery Stan, and Seoul Auction X, along with co-organizer Artree (CEO Hyein Jeon).

This year’s conference, themed ‘Hand-in-hand: Human Hyper-Node,’ included various voices on art, music, design, and popular culture that incorporate ‘technology’ such as blockchain and AI in the digital ecosystem moving from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0.

First, on the first day, the 5th, discussions were held on digital art centered on blockchain technology, NFT, and Web 3.0. Participants included Diane Droubey, founder of We Are Museums, Sebastien Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox, John Karp, chairman of the NFC Lisbon Organizing Committee and representative of NFT Factory, Seth Goldstein, founder of online art gallery Bright Moment, and digital artist DK. In particular, the AI real-time voice-to-video model (VVM) dream machine was demonstrated for the first time in Korea, drawing attention.

In addition, the pixel art drawn by artist Ju Jae-beom himself sold out in full, and the meeting between the participants and Belgian artist Limes Like Dimes, who is famous for his collaborations with Nike and Apple and is the first artist to visit Korea, led to an in-depth discussion about the collaborative ecosystem of star artists.

On the second day, the 6th, the keynote speech was held in a new way, with Professor Lee Kwang-seok of Seoul National University of Science and Technology and AI discussing the critical impact that artificial intelligence will have on humans. In addition, Director Seung-rim Yoon of Legend Film, Co-CEOs Seong-pil Kim and Moon-seok Park of Studio Atech and Art Art, and Co-CEO Ji-hyun Lee of the cultural arts content platform ‘Culture and Arts for You’ participated, and the discourse on digital art centered on artificial intelligence, humans, and popular culture continued. In addition, the omakase performance ‘Restaurant: dustless_illusion’ seen through the eyes of artist Yeon-jin Seo received favorable reviews from participants for expanding the scope of art.

On the last day, the 7th, there was an artist table by Jeon Min-je, who works on media art using data and AI, and an art tour program going outside. The art tour provided a networking experience where speakers, artists, and participants with a common interest in digital art could appreciate digital art together. ▲Paradise Art Lab Festival ▲Platform-L’s Tobias Rehberger solo exhibition ▲Nam June Paik Art Center ▲Museum The Stan’s ‘The Age of the Alternative Self’ exhibition were visited, and there was an opportunity to meet artists and curators in person.

Futura Canvas also emerged as one of the hottest parties at this year’s Seoul Art Week. The first day’s party was held on a large scale by renting out an entire club in Myeongdong in collaboration with Gallery Stan and Super Soul Seoul, and the second day’s party attracted attention with audio visuals and live coding performances by artists utilizing technology. In particular, the announcement of artist Koh Hui’s new work became a hot topic. With his work ‘Microbial Objects Sound’, he asked how we sense ‘life’ through microorganisms, and received a favorable response for making the ecosystem of sound sensed through music.

Dotplanner CEO Kim Ji-yoon said, “This conference was conducted using AI for BGM and in-house guidance. I hope this was an opportunity for participants to get a glimpse of the future through technology and art.”

Artree CEO Jeon Hye-in, who served as co-organizer and program director, added, “I hope this will be a time to highlight and connect with those who are creating the domestic and international art & tech ecosystem across art, technology, and industry, including media art.”
