Future 500 Unveils 100 Slovenian Firms Driving Global Growth

The Future 500 initiative has unveiled a selection of 100 Slovenian firms chosen for their high potential to drive global growth. Operating in conjunction with the Bled Strategic Forum, the platform serves as a strategic initiative developed by IEDC – Poslovna šola Bled in partnership with the Atlantic Council and the Bled Strategic Forum. While the forum addresses Europe’s geopolitical position, the Future 500 introduces a business and economic dimension aimed at identifying top-tier European enterprises and supporting their transition into global competitors.

Future 500 Launches First Pilot Market in Slovenia

Slovenia functions as the initial pilot market for this broader European initiative, with plans to subsequently expand the methodology to other European nations. According to Stjepan Orešković, initiator of the Future 500 project and president of the supervisory board at IEDC – Poslovna šola Bled, the selection marks only the beginning of a larger effort. Stjepan Orešković stated that these companies must be provided with what is taken for granted by their global competitors—access to capital, a truly open single market, and a path to the stock exchange.

Financial Performance and Sector Breakdown of the Selected Firms

The chosen hundred companies were compiled using a specialized methodology. Collectively, this group more than doubled its revenues over a three-year period, growing from one billion euros to over two billion euros. Furthermore, the selected enterprises employ approximately 8,100 people, having generated around 2,400 new jobs during that same three-year span.

The composition of the selected stoterica features a strong technological and industrial core. Among the 100 entities, 45 stem from the broader technology sector, while 37 operate within manufacturing and production. Notable participants named on the roster include Cosylab, Dewesoft, Pipistrel Vertical Solutions, NGEN, Sportradar, Kolektor Etra, Litostroj Power, Bosch Rexroth, Better, Leanpay, ReCatalyst, Bird Buddy Studio, MESI, SkyLabs, Sonce invest, Robotina, Robeta, Marifarm, and Beyond Semiconductor.

Addressing Europe’s Competitiveness and Capital Fragmentation

Discussions surrounding the initiative addressed broader systemic hurdles facing European enterprise development. Anže Logar, Minister for Economy, Tourism and Sport, noted that Europe has not lost an economic race with China or the United States, but rather with itself, attributing competitiveness challenges to internal European decisions rather than external factors. Participants agreed that Europe excels at founding innovative companies but struggles to establish the necessary conditions for their subsequent growth.

European Investment Bank Vice-President Marko Primorac highlighted that Europe possesses exceptional educational and research institutions, engineers, clean technologies, critical raw materials, and investment capacity. However, capital remains fragmented and reaches growing businesses too slowly. Consequently, Europe houses only eight percent of the world’s fast-growing companies, with many firms relocating outside the European Union—particularly to the United States—to secure easier access to venture capital and lighter regulation.

Strategic Path Forward for European Market Integration

Industry leaders at the gathering emphasized the necessity of activating private capital, ensuring adequate funding for digital and research infrastructure, establishing competitive energy prices, and reducing administrative barriers. Michiel Scheffer, president of the European Innovation Council board, reiterated that Europe does not lack capital, but rather requires its intelligent deployment toward worthy projects. Observers also pointed to regional and European capital market integration as a vital mechanism for stimulating investments and supporting the next generation of business growth.
