Future conference of the EU calls for a national veto

by time news

More than 200 proposals from citizens who want a more sustainable, more democratic and internationally sovereign EU are on the table.

If the 800 citizens taking part in the EU Future Conference have their way, the European Union will change significantly. In their final report, they call for the almost complete abolition of national vetoes, the renaming of EU institutions, more citizen participation, more climate-friendly, more sustainable agriculture, uniform criteria for minimum income and legal, orderly migration.

They had been meeting for a year, and next Saturday the randomly selected participants from all member states will present their proposals in the plenary session of the Future Conference. On May 9, the reform package will then be handed over to the French Council Presidency under President Emmanuel Macron, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU Parliament President Roberta Metsola.
