G. Galvydytė, a runner improving at Oklahoma State University in the USA, went to Paris on Wednesday together with Airina Palšyte, where she will compete in the first Olympic Games of her career.

Does the young athlete feel tension before the most important and biggest start of her career?

“For now, my legs are not shaking, but when I go, I will probably feel the tension. It’s hard to say now, but you want to go, see, feel that feeling. Then I will know how it feels to be an Olympian. It’s hard to name it now,” the athlete taught.

Mūsiškė will run in the 800 m race. The indoor track record is 2 minutes. 00.11 sec., and in closed ones – 2 min. 1.07 sec. It is G. Galvydyte who holds the Lithuanian indoor 800m record, which she achieved in 2024. in February

However, what is special about this event, in which a light athlete will participate?

“Success is also incredibly important. You may have a strategy when you start running, but you never know how your competitors will run. It’s also a matter of luck – where you end up and so on. When the running starts – only then do you understand what you can do better”, said the athlete.

As mentioned before, G.Galvydytė will make her debut on the biggest stage in Paris.

So far, the runners have managed to take 29th place in the world championships, and 24th in the European Championship.

What is Lithuania’s goal in Paris?

“You want to run for the result, you want to run faster than 2 minutes. I think that it would possibly lead to the semi-finals, which is my goal now”, G. Galvydytė said briefly.

G. Galvydytė went to Paris with perhaps the most experienced athlete A. Palšyte, for whom this is the fourth Olympic Games in her career.

Did the 24-year-old runner ask her colleagues for advice before her debut on the Olympic stage?

“Not really. I think participating in the world championships was a good experience that I can now use in these Olympics. It is very difficult to say how I will feel on the starting track when I have not participated in an event of this level, but for now I feel very good”, said G. Galvydytė.

– This year you had many competitions – NCAA and other championships. Will there be enough strength in Paris?

– I have a very good coach who does a great job and makes sure that I run the whole season, not just in one competition. We are working on it a lot. My body really likes to participate in competitions and I think that those starts are only good for me.”

– Do you remember what you did during the Tokyo Olympics and did you think then that you would participate in the Paris Olympics?

– I was watching, but I wasn’t at that level yet, so it was hard to think about whether I could be in this Olympics. But, of course, there was a desire to participate, and after last year’s World Championship, I realized that there is an opportunity to participate in the Olympic Games as well. Then everything felt right.

– What is the prognosis for Keely Hodgkinson? Will she win this match?

– I think it’s always difficult, but she’s at a really unreal level now. I also had to run with her, so I think she has every chance to win”

– What would you wish for yourself before your debut at the Olympic Games?

– I would like to enjoy myself and enjoy the moment, not to push myself. Having fun doing what I do best and being relaxed will get me the result I want to achieve.
