The actions that must be taken immediately so that the construction and operation of the Rhodes Hospital
– 2024-04-07 09:31:38″>radiotherapy facility in Rhodes can proceed quickly were highlighted by Giorgos Nikitiadis, Member of Parliament for the Dodecanese PASOK Movement for Change and former Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism during the discussion of the n/s, “Actions of public of health – Arrangements to strengthen the National Health System”. With the n/s, the first step is taken for the creation of the radiation therapy unit in Rhodes, after a relevant commitment that Mr. Nikitiadis had received from the Minister of Health, Mr. Georgiadis during the discussion of a relevant topical question that had been tabled by the Dodecanese Member of Parliament. At the same time, Mr. Nikitiadis highlighted the huge ideological differences that PASOK and ND have in the field of Public Health. The discussion of the matter took place on Friday, April 12.
Referring to the radiation therapy at the Rhodes hospital, which is a constant request of the residents of the Dodecanese and hundreds of cancer patients, Mr. Nikitiadis underlined “first of all I would like to express my satisfaction for the consistency that Mr. Georgiadis has shown. We had discussed a topical question two months ago where I asked him the issue of radiotherapy in Rhodes. He pledged to proceed with the change required with the ownership regime. He did it and it is provided for in article 39”. At the same time, however, the Member of Parliament of Dodecanese emphasized that three more issues should be resolved quickly in order to end the suffering of cancer patients. As Mr. Nikitiadis characteristically mentioned, “One is the change in the organization of the hospital. If the organization does not change, if no new doctor-nurse positions are foreseen, no radiotherapy can work. Second, the study of environmental conditions that usually takes quite a lot of time. And the third, the provision for a second linear accelerator line, because with only one piece of equipment, if it breaks down, engineers will not be there to fix it in Rhodes, queues will be created”.
Highlighting the ideological differences between PASOK and ND in the field of Public Health, the Dodecanese Member of Parliament noted that: “PASOK believes in a pure Public Health System, with modern building facilities fully equipped and staffed. Every citizen, from Evros to Kastellorizo, is entitled to free, adequate, dignified, rapid health care.” He criticized the ND for not staffing and equipping the health structures and at the same time not supporting the health sector from the Recovery Fund with a percentage of 10% as proposed by PASOK, while he also criticized the paid afternoon surgeries. At the same time, addressing the Government, he noted: “Who, ladies and gentlemen, have taken the big hospitals from the private ones today?” The funds. What our people intelligently call “crows”. Are there funds that do not aim exclusively at profit, how will they get their money back within seven years? And just so you understand, I don’t want any of us to be in the position of having to pay a private hospital bill.”
