G. Žiemelis gives advice to the future LKF president – he has a plan to save Lithuanian basketball

by times news cr

Gediminas Žiemelis, a businessman and one of the owners of the Vilnius “Wolves” team, was no exception.

On Friday, he shared a post on Facebook in which he offered advice to the future head of the basketball federation.

“A wish for the new head of LKF.

In today’s modern life, sport is business and management. LKF, like other federations, determines how the sport will be organized managerially, and future results will depend on it. Not from cars, cabinets, publicity money through friends’ companies or other welfare for basketball officials, but from managerial decisions…

There are 3 essential things (can be called KPI) that will make Lithuania a leading basketball country or not (Icelandic football phenomenon, by the way, can be an example of this):

1. Children’s coaches. Do you know how much a children’s coach earns today? A maximum of 1,500 euros per month. I, for example, could name only a few names of children’s coaches. For example, in Iceland, 700 coaches have a UEFA football coaching license. In Lithuania, the analogue according to the population would be about 4,000 coaches.

2. Total number of children playing basketball. It’s hard to even find statistics on Google or LKF (meaning, the goal is not to exercise as much as possible). My sources say – no more than 12 thousand. of children. The registered number of people playing football in Iceland is 22 thousand. = 7 percent of the country’s population. The analogue in Lithuania would be about 200 thousand.

3. Basketball infrastructure – halls. Due to climatic conditions, 12 thousand and there is a limit because there is a lack of gyms. The head of the LKF patronizes the construction of new redundant arenas, while the training halls can probably be filled three times. And by the way, there are no tangible initiatives from the former LKF leadership.

In other words, the goals would be:

– At least 2,000 well-paid coaches.

– 50 thousand children attending basketball training.

– 400 covered sports halls throughout Lithuania so that children can train during the winter.

– A strong school basketball league.

Following this path, the result would be in five or six years”, wrote G. Žiemelis on Facebook.

We remind you that on Friday, Mindaugas Balčiūnas and Robertas Javotokas announced their decision to seek the post of LKF president.

The election of the new LKF president will be held on September 17.
