The G7 foreign ministers called on “all parties involved in the current crisis in the Middle East to refrain from any steps that could lead to further escalation in the region.”

“We, the G7 Foreign Ministers, express our deep concern over the escalating level of tension in the Middle East, which risks igniting a wider conflict in the region. We once again urge all stakeholders to refrain from escalation,” the G7 said in a statement.

“We must continue to work to prevent retaliatory violence, to ease tensions and to take constructive measures to de-escalate,” the ministers stressed in a joint statement published on the Italian Foreign Ministry’s website. The statement also stressed that “no country will benefit from further escalation in the Middle East.”

“We call on the parties concerned to refrain from any action that could obstruct the path of dialogue or encourage a new escalation,” the Italian presidency of the G7 said in a statement.

According to Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, the ministers expressed “deep concern over recent events that threaten to turn the current situation into a regional crisis, starting from Lebanon.”

Hamas announced a few days ago the assassination of the head of the movement’s political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, in an Israeli raid that targeted his residence in Tehran, after his participation in the inauguration ceremony of the new Iranian president, Masoud Pezeshkian. The movement held Israel and the United States responsible for his death.
