DIG/ While the presidential camp and certain deputies have been campaigning for weeks for the OUI In the constitutional referendum, we now know a little more about the outlines of the future fundamental law.

Indeed, after having submitted the final version to the President of the Transition, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguéma, on Saturday, August 31, 2024, the Minister responsible for Institutional Reform, Murielle Minkoué, gave a summary of the main planned changes.

A referendum is planned before the end of 2024 to decide whether or not to adopt the new constitution of the Gabonese Republic.

1-Adoption of a presidential regime.

2-Abolition of the post of Prime Minister.

3-The President of the Republic will be elected for a 7-year term, renewable once.

4-Any sitting president who wants to revise these provisions would now be guilty of high treason.

5-The candidate for the presidential election must have parents born in Gabon.

6-The President of the Republic may dissolve Parliament.

7-The deputies and senators in turn can dismiss the President of the Republic in the event of high treason.

8-The project elevates to the rank of “Heroes” the soldiers who overthrew the Bongo regime which reigned over Gabon for 56 years.

9-The putschist soldiers will benefit from an amnesty law.

10-Marriage is considered to be the union between two people of opposite sexes.
