DIG/ The national air transport sector has once again recorded mixed results.

According to data from the Ministry of the Economy, in the second quarter of 2023, the passenger number index, the main indicator for measuring air transport activity, fell 1.4% quarter-on-quarter.

Business continues to suffer the increase in charges (price of kerosene and increase in ASECNA taxes) which was passed on to the prices of plane tickets.

On the other hand, compared to the same period of last year and to the cumulative six months, the index appreciated by 6.3% and 14.9% respectively, indicating the dynamism of the sector.

You must know that the price of kerosene has doubled in Gabon.

It went from 600 francs per liter in January 2022 to…1,250 francs in 2023.

A situation which has since had an inevitable impact on the price of plane tickets.

Especially since Asecna carried out, in January 2023, a further increase in its navigation taxes, already considered to be the highest in the world.
