DIG/ According to data from the Central African Banking Commission (Cobac), in the first quarter of 2023, the total balance sheet of the banking system increased by 5.7% compared to the previous quarter.
That evolution mainly explained by the consolidation of 2.5% of customer deposits and the strengthening of 3.2% of permanent capital (compared to a decrease of 1.9% in the last quarter of 2022).
Loans distributed remained almost stable (+0.6%), whereas they were up by 2.3% at the end of December 2022.
In parallel, non-performing receivables, which represented 10.3% of total loans, increased by 20.1% following the lifting of the extension of the downgrading period for receivables following the end of the restrictive health measures of the Covid-19 pandemic.
