Pap Ndiaye spoke of a “attractiveness shock” for the teaching profession. The hour of support or reinforcement planned in French or mathematics in 6th grade is set up from the start of the school year, “in a tailor-made logic”. Each academy must also now define a “fundamentals strategy”, “an absolute obligation to better manage and better decline the learning of this knowledge”, judge Gabriel Attal. These devices are supplemented by a reinforcement of the evaluation with the generalization of the national tests passed in class of CM1 and 4th, after those set up in CP, CE1 and 6th.
Grade drop in math

A diagnosis tempered by Eric Charbonnier, education analyst at the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). “In the PISA studies [Programme international pour le suivi des acquis], France is in the average of OECD countries in terms of reading comprehension. On the other hand, the level actually fell in mathematics between 2003 and 2018. What characterizes France above all is a significant difference in results between the best pupils and the weakest, strongly correlated with their socio-economic background.
