Unlike last year, the Boric government will hold a limited commemoration of the coup d’état, where new announcements are expected on the National Plan for Searching for Victims of Forced Disappearance.
This Wednesday September 11th are commemorated 51 years since the coup d’état took place in Chile, in 1973, which gave way to a long dictatorship that to this day leaves the country’s wounds open.
In this context, the Government of Gabriel Boric will carry out various activities to commemorate this event. First, he is expected to visit the former torture and detention center Sexy Salelocated in the commune of Macul, Metropolitan Region.
In this regard, on Tuesday, the president referred to this activity during the inauguration of the Camino de la Memoria in the National Stadium Park, where he said: “PSoon we will be delivering the Sexy Blindfold, a site of memory“.
Later, on September 11, President Gabriel Boric will lead the Commemorative Act Democracy, Alwayswhose activity will be carried out in The Coin from 12:30 p.m., where government authorities, parliamentarians, relatives of missing detainees and political executions, representatives of human rights organizations, among other guests, will be present.

During the afternoon of this day, the head of State at around 4:30 p.m. will make a tour of the Memorial de Paine together with the Association of Relatives of Disappeared and Executed Political Detainees of Paine; the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Luis Cordero; the Minister of National Assets, Marcela Sandoval; and the Undersecretary for Human Rights, Daniela Quintanilla.

“We want to increase the budget for memorial sites(…). What are all political forces going to do about this? I invite them to be attentive, because memory is not the heritage of a political sector, it is the heritage of a country. I call for historical awareness to prevail over pettiness,” said the president.
